Does anyone know of a ceramic restorer in or near Pennsylvania? I
received this inquiry and would like to help the person out if I can.

> My friend who is not internet savvy asked me to find a PA restorer for
> a white ironstone pitcher that is chipped at the top rim. He has what
> looks to be most or all of the pieces and he needs someone to repair
> the pitcher.

Please send response to me off list at john@frogpondpottery.com

Thanks,

John

wow. a question i can actually answer.

sue west, in meadville pa, is an objects conservator.

she has done very good work on ceramics, including replacing a missing
piece in a chipped vessel from the everson museum in syracuse.

as a conservator, she is VERY careful to not imperil the existing
object. may sound minor, but for example, some carper restorers will
use materials like latex, which can't be undone and may ultimately harm
the textile. a conservator will only use techniques that are safe for
the object.

for more info on conservation & conservators, you can go to
http://aic.stanford.edu/
this is the web site of the american institute for conservation of
historical and artistic works.
it has lots of info on how to pick a conservator.

if you want to contact sue, let me know off-list & i can give you her
phone #. if she isn't currently accepting projects, she can probably
help you locate someone else.
