Hello folks,
I am new to this group and look forward to learning very much from all of
you and hopefully contributing as well.
I am looking for the best source material (books, websites, classes in the
NYC area) for the formulation of casting slips from dry ingredients and the
defloculation of prepared bodies for use in casting. I have been using
pre-made slips in my studio which have been great but now that I am moving
into larger quantities and more intricate forms, I am needing to have slip
with specific properties. also it is not financially feasible to rely on
these products in a production situation. I realize that recipes, both clay
and glaze, are carefully guarded secrets that are the core of many a ceramic
business, so i am not asking for your recipes, unless of course you want to
share. I am looking for published material. I am having a hard time
finding much of this info myself.
I've read The Complete Guide to Mold Making and Slipcasting (I think it is
called) and there is some very good basic info about ingredients in it.
but not nearly enough.
