Thank you Pamela! I'm mostly a mud hermit here. Jean did made me drive
us to Kasama yesterday, to the Ibaraki Ceramic museum yesterday, to see a
show of Momoyama era inspired pottery. I tell you, the modern
"rediscovered" Japanese Shinos are nothing like the traditional ones. I
like the old ones much better. The old shinos are much warmer and more
complicated. The new ones are usually too stark.
Been busy with a woodkiln firing. You can see some of the shigiraki
haicabari work (haicabari means fly ash glazed) here:

Right now, I am polishing shigiraki ware. A large tsubo (jar) is next,
then yunomi.
I learned working on my sensei's work, that the mat surfaces have a
coating of dull oxide on them. If you polish them, the color comes
through.
