First many many thanks to the clayfolk that have offered me advice off =
and on line. The wax I used was Laguna, couple of years old. Does wax =
have any ingredients that can age?. Actually I hate wax, it always seems =
to get somewhere I don't want it to be. Last night I was reading peter =
King's ' Architectural Ceramics" and he suggested putting wet clay =
over the (bisqued) areas I want to mask, then pealing it off when the =
rest of the glaze is dry. It sounds like a possible and I'm going to try =
it today. Also when the studio is warm enough to get into, at least over =
35 degrees, i'll see the results of my rubber cement as a mask test.

For your basic clay library books, how about "Hands in Clay" by =
Charlotte Speight. I don't have any mentors with a pulse (other than =
CLayart) so I turn to that for basic info. Also for glaze recipes, =
Daphne Carnegy's Majolica.=20

Thanks again all and happy Thanksgiving

I too have this problem of glaze sticking to the waxed areas,
also using Laguana wax resist), but regardless of how well I
clean the waxed areas up after the rest of the glazed areas
are dry, there ALWAYS seems to be some residual glaze left
causing a poorly reduced dingy gray area instead of the desired
deep carbon black.

I thought I had just forgotten how to properly use wax or that
the wax itself had changed composition of the years, (having
not used a wax resist method in 8-9 years)....I've just been
too busy and ..well...embarassed to ask , "what's the deal with
my waxing?" I'd love to hear some of the techniques and materials
used by others to obtain the wax resist look. has anyone sucessfully
used a peel off latex material and if so....what exactly was used
(brand name - purchase location)?

Thanks,
wesley
