wax resist for raku and such

Howdy folks,

Good discussion regarding wax and raku. Various tapes have been
mentioned. I use it all. Elecrical tape is good, but even more fun
because of the variety of widths and the extrreme flexibility is pin
striping tape from auto pain/body shops. Kind of spendy, but I love the
curves that can be accomplished.

Shoe polish and black acrylic paint have been mentioned for enhancing black
reduction areas. Some use ink. Of course that is some thing to look for
when choosing a clay for raku. Some clays take carbon better than others.
But I stumbled into a real time saver with this. Being concerned with
coppers fading over time, I tried various coatings. Have settled with
Krylon Crystal Clear. The neat thing about this method is that any black
reduction areas are beautified and enhanced when sprayed. Now most of my
vessels get a shot of Krylon before going out the door.

Very Pretty.

I'm already sick of it.

Leland,
Do you have any pictures of your taping results, it sounds fascinating. Do
you use tape on top of glaze as well as under glaze? Also does the Krylon
Crystal change the matted black surface in anyway other than enhancing the
richness of the black? Thanks for sharing your tips and if you ever want to share
your copper glaze recipe.....I'd love to have a peak. Thanks again.....have a
Happy Thanksgiving!
