after show, not just clay artists

Reading through the thread of "after show blues" it brought back
memories of being on the other side; the gallery owner. Wife & I had
the gallery for ten years, 70-80 shows during that time. After every
opening there was always the "artist blues & anxiety". A majority of
the work we exhibited were of artists just getting their feet wet,
for many this was their first "one man " show. The work always looked
better up on the wall in a gallery setting with proper lighting,
etc., but the artists would often question their work/abilities after
seeing the show installed. By the end of the opening reception, the
blues would begin to set in.
I have come to believe that artists - many with fragile emotional
temperaments (boy, am I going to hear about this one) - build up high
expectations and are so narrowly focused - when the opening/show is
over - well the best is over, the high is gone, all that energy that
was put into creating and preparing is done. It's just the way it is
- it's normal!
