Car repair shops.
When your brakes are worn out and you continue driving,
the brake calipers (with no pads left) will rub against the
wheel and score the wheel.
Before new pads can be installed, the wheel must be removed
from the car, and the scored surface must be smoothed by
turning it on a lathe. This produces bits of steel - good-sized
pieces for claybodies.
Any shop that turns wheels will probably have at least 5
pounds of shavings around the lathe, accumulated since
the last time the shavings were cleaned up and thrown away.
Be sure to put the shavings through a 40 or 50 mesh sieve,
to keep out any large particles. A large piece could have
sharp edges that could cut your hands.
Now you know why your Dad always told you to get your
brakes fixed as soon as you hear or feel any problem.
