Canon just released a lighter body weight pro version of their pro camera.
It lists for around $999. It is all the camera you will ever need for
prints, slides, etc.
Canon EOS 300 Digital Rebel 6.3 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera With 18-55MM
EF-S Lens
Thank you.

I just bit the bullet (it was actually a plastic bullet, and
said VISA on it) and bought this camera. I have always used Canon
35 mm SLRs ( FTB, and earlier models) and loved them.
The Digital Rebel is just an amazing camera. It does have a stupid name,
which is unfortunate- sort of like the latest weird special concoction
at
Mickey D's.
But the images are incredible, and the selection of lenses is pretty
complete. I have managed to get print quality images out of my Olympus
2.1 MP camera, through judicious use of Photoshop. The quality
of these 6.3 MP images is fairly stunning. I know pro digital boxes
are 20
MP machines; I have a friend who uses one, and I want to compare this
camera's well tweaked output to his- I am not really expecting to see a
difference.
It goes kachunk
cheers

Hi Fellow Cameraheads,
I've been holding back buying a digital camera for a number of years...
waiting for the prices to drop a bit... technology to improve... you know... the
usual "wait and see" approach to anything technologically new. I'm thinking I'm
about ready to make the plunge into digital.
Do any of you have any knowledge of the new Canon EOS-10D? I read about it in
an ad and it looks pretty state-of-the-art, but I don't know that much about
digital yet. B&H Photo, a large discount camera store in Manhattan retails it
in their catalog for $1499, but... I have a feeling it could be gotten a
little cheaper by now (my catalog is not totally current). I'm not sure how I'll
pay for it just yet... but I don't want to scrimp on a quality piece of
equipment that I hope to market my work with either. For those of you that know
digital cameras really well, I've listed the specs below. Any feedback is welcome...
thanks in advance! :-)

"Still happy with my old (circa 1987) Minolta Maxxum 7000 SLR, except for the
recent repair bill that was around $250... apparently the electronic sensors
in the body as well as the lens needed to be replaced... they weren't
communicating with each other properly after some sort of anomaly (a surge within the
electronic computer system). First time in 16 years I'd ever had a problem
with this camera. Tomorrow I wait for our first snowfall of the season to
arrive... time to gas up the snowblower and make sure it's running good... get out
the shovels and the salt... and wait for this nor'easter to blow in this
weekend... "hello winter!" :-) "

Hi,
The 10D was introduced a few months before the Canon EOS 300 Digital Rebel
6.3 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera With 18-55MM
EF-S Lens was released--to the dismay of my friend. They are the exact same
camera except the 10D is a heavier body. I've played with both. The guts
are the same. The 300 is also supposed to be made of newer stronger
plastic. There would really be no reason to buy the more expensive camera.
If you all can wait, they will be cheaper by the new year. And, if you all
can wait on data storage devices, the green laser will be coming out next
year as well--this is why hard drives and DVD drive prices are plumitting.
But heck, who needs a green laser when you can get a DVD burner (5+ gig
data) for $99.
Thank you.

Canon is a top of the line camera company. Tough to go wrong there. I'm
fully entrenched with Nikon, but I would never say a bad word about Canon.

B&H has about the best prices I've found anywhere for cameras (but not
video). Just call them for the current price.

Kenneth,
B&H has a pretty nice web site
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home
Should be able to get current prices and a nice comparison to other
makes. They also have an all digital catalog for $6.95 that really does
a nice job of explaining the basics of digital photography.

Kenneth - that's the one for a professional photographer - local paper
photographer uses one here. The EOS Rebel 300D is the same camers but much
cheaper due to a polycarbon body instead of an alloy body - not as robust
but if all you're doing is light photography occasionally rather than
trekking around and traeting your camera hard.....(shrug) the price
difference means you can buy more lenses if you want!!! I am not a camera
officionado and live a long way from any camers outlets ordevelopers of
slides so my one and ahalf month old Rebel is getting a workout and so is my
brain!
Does no movies but my pots tend to sit still when I film them! and at least
I have no problems getting a grip on it!!! Not one of those minny mongrels I
can barely hold
Am slowly learning how to use it but think I will still use my SLR for
panoramic landscape shots - lotsa wide open spaces up here are perfect for
that!Any queries just e-mail and I'll do my best
