Dear all clayarters:

I admit up front that this post is really dumb because I can't remember the exact details. But here goes. This was happening a couple months ago to a couple people at a local group studio. They also thought the cause was maybe "magic water". Since I rarely used red clays in my life (usually Jordan or other buff color) I never ran into the problem.

Our clay supplier who sells Laguna clays, said it was because those people had bought a red clay that had not been "________" (a term I don't remember) which meant that certain chemicals "________" (salts, soda? ) rise to the top after bisque and create that ashy look. So it was important to only buy red clay that is_____ and not _____. Short term memory is reeeeeally shot.

So now will you clay making experts out there please fill in the blanks for me. I'll be out of touch for the next 3 days but will look for your input later. Hope you all have a good weekend and fun posting.
