Dear friends,
Kyanite is an Alumino-silicate Mineral, Al.AlO.(SiO4). It is similar to =
Mullite, has similar refractory qualities and to the best of my =
understanding does not undergo phase changes as Quartz or Silica derived =
refractories do.
Hence it confers a degree of thermal shock resistance to clay bodies =
when it is substituted for Silica. Sillimanite is another Alumino =
silicate mineral with this useful property.
