I suspect you could reduce or eliminate the s cracks by compressing the =
bottom of your piece a little more.........press and smooth from the =
center, in and out to the middle and eliminate standing water, so the =
clay can dry uniformly. I hope this helps.

I think the cracks we are talking about here are related to how the pot was
made - in other words - they did not happen because of the firing but
because the clay was sensitive to the forning and drying techniques.
Good info in the Hamer book on this type of cracking - and most others as
well - 10 pages on cracks - you find the crack that looks like yours and he
tells you why it happened - still the best book for any studio potter who
is trying to understand our craft.
Not made in USA I know - but the best is still the best - no matter where
it's made.
