Hi C.A., I have previously posted about using old fashioned vinyl lineoleum that comes in sheets. Cut it to size of your roller. Place the clay sandwiched BEWTEEN THE PAPER BACKSIDES of the lineoleum. So it is shinny vinyl side-paper backside-CLAY-paper backside-shinny vinyl side.Roll the whole sandwich through the roller. Your clay comes out smooth, no canvas marks. The lineoleum is heavy enough to support the clay and inhibit warping. It really does work. It really does go through the roller. Been doing this for years. No warpage at all.

"Does anyone have any alternative source ideas for some really thick
canvas-type material for my slab roller? The current canvas is in bad
shape, and a new one was priced at $90 plus shipping. Fabric stores
carry canvas that is too thin, and I haven't found any painter's drop
cloths thick enough either. C. A. Sanger
