Dear Friends,
I did a bit of net surfing following advice given to me and found the =
following site =
http://www.euro-photo.net/images/for_articles/gunnar_lenstest/test_in.gif=

This has a discussion about resolution and provides two charts for =
testing your own cameras. One chart is calibrated to give Lines per mm =
and the other Dots per Inch.
Looks like 100 l/mm is equivalent to 2500 DPI. If I have read this and =
understood what things are supposed to mean, to get the same clarity =
with a digital cameral as with one of the better 35 mm camera lenses the =
digital camera would need to have 9.5 megapixels and to get the same =
sort of quality as a 2 1/4 square format you would need 31 megapixels.
I also have a suspicion that many lenses used on digital cameras are =
adaptations of small gauge cine camera lenses. No need to reinvent the =
wheel for the new technology.
Best regards,
