ot: us social security number as means of identification

updated mon 22 dec 03

Janet Kaiser on sun 21 dec 03

I had to apply for and was issued with an American SSNo. because
even as a foreign national, I could not register as a student at
the State University of New York, Plattsburgh without one. That
was back in 1975. I had a little card (lost/stolen in a NY bar
with all my worldly goods) which had to be shown at the bank to
open an account too. I am sure you will find that there are other
instances where an SSNo is essential. It is after all unique to
each person. Or should be. Which is why I have wondered about
"stolen identity" in the USA... I wonder if there is someone
passing themselves off as me!?!? Hopefully not!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser
