hey marvin how r u??

just read ur reply. u know after i wrote that message
about bein afraid to make nonfunctional stuff, i
wished that i never posted it. i do like makin both
function and non functional work. i will admit that
there are some things i haven't made before like
cassarole dishes and goblets and it worries me that i
haven't made then and it seems that i dont have the
drive to wanna make then. but then i think i should
give it a try and make the forms. never know i may
grow to like doin them. then i think i wanna blame my
not knowin how to make certain forms on the
universityh i attended which was really bad. my clay
teacher was a sculpture and really didnt know much
about well throwin and things that go with it ( just
image that atomsphere in the class marvin). i dont
think that a person who is tryin to learn pottery
should work alone at first but that's how is was for
me. this is not a sob story haha. i'm just puttin
alittle back ground out there. so after writin that
message i came to a conclusion..if u wanna learn
someting sometimes u gonna teach yourself and of
course as the clay art gang questions along the way.
ok i better go. feel free to write back. take care

Keisha,
I wouldn't worry about it. Make what you want to make, you are doing it
for yourself anyway. If it is a marketing consideration, than consider
it if it interests you and you think it might sell well. On the other
hand, if you aren't interested, don't do it unless you want to stretch
yourself in a particular direction and feel that making that particular
thing might help.

I have made pottery (mostly on the wheel) for about 20 years. I have
made ONE teapot (and it wasn't very good) in all of that time. My
intention is to force myself to make some more over the next few months.
But that is because I think I NEED the challenge. I think having to put
the different parts together and have it work is a real challenge, one
I've spent too long avoiding. Not being a tea drinker might have
something to do with it though. But there are some pots I just don't
have any interest in making--so I don't.
