i hope you all have it clear....there is a
great deal of difference between artspeak, phoney
intellectual blather and `art discussion`...the sincere
need to talk of one's work or ideas.

it is critical and the life blood of clayart to be able
to discuss art and craft, philosophy and ideas.
and, have the need to listen and learn from others.

that is our goal. that is the life blood of clayart.
we will all work to defend our rights to that
sort of discussion...and, we will work hard to make
fun of, delete, bash those that are doing things
for the wrong reason, and are full of hot air.

it is one of the most important reasons that i get up
at 4:30 in the morning to do clayart work. it is why
i give freely of several hours a day...year round. to keep
the craft alive in a vital way. to give a platform for folks
to discuss real ideas is how we save the craft...we have
never had a better venue.

Mel,
While I completely agree with you that a good discussion is vital to address,
and understand, a specific topic. I disagree with you that ALL forms of
discussion are helpful.
A good debate typically has structure. A good defense of a position includes
stating facts in a sequential way such that the stated conclusion seems to be
the logical result.
Simply repeating one's position again and again without a logical advancement
does not further the discussion.
If discussions could be more structured, positions laid out sequentially,
conclusions stated, then the debates could be more about the conclusions reached,
and the logic used, instead of chaotic rhetoric we so often see.

just a thought?

take care
happy new year
