Paul, I think you are right. While normal cooking might not may neutralize
them, red heat should:

Some loss of infectivity occurs at temperatures above 100C
But 30 to 60 minutes at more than 130C is needed for inactivation, although
autoclaving at 134C (Marsh, 1991) to 138C for 60 minutes does not result
in complete inactivation
