"unclayart postings" snow job!

updated mon 5 jan 04

Hey Jan,
Yep we got snow but it melted by the next day.
It did cause havoc but the black ice today really
had knickers in a twist.
Hehhehe we stayed home until it was safe.
The biggest problem is the people who move here
from Fla, Calif. and states that get little to no snow.
It's quite funny to watch someone in their SUV, or honkin big
truck spin out cause they don't know how to drive in the fun stuff.
I observed the same thing when we lived in Colorado.
Happy New Year!

Hey, hey! Seattle got snow this year? How much? Bet that closed down public
transportation! Being from Idaho, when we lived in Tacoma, we used to ferry
people around, and pull them out of ditches. Snow is heavier over there and
really a cinch for us to drive in. What a kick! Seattle's got snow! Jan, the
Alleycat

Really. I thought Colorado was a snow state. Down is Boise they get in a
mess, too. We have a new rash of accidents here every first day of snow. Why these
out-of-staters think if they go faster they'll have more traction, or get out
of it quicker, I don't know. Their logic escapes me. And, they are so amazed
when it didn't work. I suppose they are the ones that keep breaking their legs
or run into trees, or get lost on the ski runs. Wonder how fast our Gondola
would go if they had their way?? Jan, the Alleycat.

Ps. I've never seen snow on an Island. Bet it makes for an interesting shore
line. Do the ferries still run, or do they slow down their service?

Gayle,

That's pretty funny. I thought the same thing about Seattle drivers when I
moved from Massachusetts to Seattle years ago. It seemed to me that the folks in
Seattle didn't know how to drive in snow. Guess it's all relative!

Oh Shula...
It goes without saying that native
Seattle folk generally have very little
experience driving in snow unless they
are avid skiers.
Sorry I didn't make that clear.
They are not totally challenged...
they do know how to drive
in (snicker, snicker) rain.

Jan,

Since I am surrounded by trees and houses I cannot
tell you about the shoreline.
The ferries run on time unless there is a visibility or
high wind issue, extreme low tide, and of course our
2001 Nisqually 6.7 earthquake "shook" up the schedule!
The ferry accidents I am aware of were not caused by snow...
more like human and/or mechanical failure.
This all could change if Puget Sound were to freeze
or Mt. Rainier were to blow or a tsunami hit
but I don't think the Farmer's Almanac has predicted
any of those possibilities this year.
However my daughter did complain
how cold it was in Seattle yesterday.

Shula
are the Seattle folk worse than the Maryland drivers. Fog they can
deal with but snow. and one tv channel does what they call "The snow
Show" where the two local anchors sit in the studio and read emails
about the snow while reporters go to different neighborhoods and
interview the people who are walking around in the snow. they also
have a "huricane show" that they do the same thing in the fall. I am
waiting for them to get blown away while they are standing one the
beach "downey ocean"

OK Folks. I've lived in a lot of places. Ohio, Texas, Colorado, Europe,
Pacific NW (Oregon/Washington specifically) and now Florida. I used to be
an avid skier and drove to all of those snow covered areas in the US and in
Europe.

My take is, people are lousy drivers pretty much everywhere. However, they
are THE worst (is there such a word?) in Florida. All of the states must
have a mandate that their poor drivers spend the winter in Florida.

Best wishes from Florida where it is once again in the 80's and I would love
to see some snow flakes and icy roads.

That's a bummer. I didn't think anyone could beat out a Washington coast
driver. When I lived there, I tried not to go places on the week-end. My ex and I
carried flares and such in our car, because we kept coming up on accidents.

Yeah, I was on a ferry when it hit the Orca Island dock, and still there when
the first computer-run ferry ran itself into a sandbar and was stuck for
eight hours. Still, I'd rather be stuck on the ferry than in Sea-Tac traffic! Jan,
