Here's a nice buttery matt black that I used a bit on the exterior of jars in
the 80's. It is low in alumina for cone 10 but at the top of the limit in
silica. I don't know if the high silica would compensate for the low alumina and
make is a durable glaze. If using it on functional ware, you might want to
have it tested. It's a nice black and without needing the more toxic materials,
i.e. manganese and/or chrome.
