Dear Mel,
We are thrilled at CERF because 23 people gave donations marked ClayArt
totaling $1,545.00 as of today, Thursday, January 15, 2004. I have the
hopeful idea that we will leave it open till the end of the month to do our
final tally because I would love to reach $2,000. I thank each of you so
much who contributed. Below is the reprint of the original appeal. Again,
please know how much I appreciate how generous you have been.
Dear ClayArt Folks,
The huge fires in the San Diego area mean I know two potters who lost
absolutely everything -- house and studio, glaze formulas developed over
years of work, tools, equipment, and a lot more -- to these enormous fires.
This does not even include other artists who have also lost everything. The
situations of these artists is particularly poignant for me as I am on the
board for the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF). I read overwhelming
applications from craft people across the country who tell us how as little
as $1,500 can be so helpful (we go as high as $8,000). I just talked to an
artist from Maine last month who said CERF got $1,500 to her within such a
short time after her accident that it made all the difference in paying
some bills and gave her a huge psychological boost too.
So I have a suggestion. What if everyone on ClayArt gave a donation of any
size and we made a difference together? Imagine what we could do? If you
want to join in, send a check to CERF today:

In the memo of your check put: "CLAY ART DONATION." CERF will keep track of
the amount we raise and I'll let you know what we were able to do by Jan 15.

Thanks so much for reading this and I thank many of you in advance for your
tax-deductible donation.
Warmly,
