Thanks to all who responded to my questions about how to deal with this
problem. Wayneinkeywest was right - I do want glaze on the inside edges of
the holes, I just don't want it to plug them closed. I'll test, test, test.

Another suggestion - wet each hole area with a small sponge. The
wetted clay will not absorb as much glaze when you dip or pour glaze
on the pot. If you have lots of holes - well it may be a pain in
the....
Still may need to stick a needle in some holes to "widdle out" some glaze.

I have used small straws cut into pieces to keep the holes open
quit making collanders coz the were a PITA that way
