Dear Russel Fouts,=20

Sorry but I could not find a url to your image of the "Blizzard of White =
Spots".

I had a similar experience many years ago. When the pots came out of the =
kiln I knew immediately why. Laxly, I forgot to screen the glaze before =
applying it to the ware.

The cause. The batch of Zirconium Silicate I was using must have not =
been ground as thoroughly as it might have been or it had become wet at =
some time during storage and balled or caked into pellets.

Zirconium Silicate is highly refractory. It is reported as decomposing =
above 1540=BAC(CRC). We use it because it is insoluble to a fair degree =
in silicate melts, hence its power as an opacifier.

From your data I can discern no other cause.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia
