Dear Clayarters,

>> I have worked with these materials all the time for eons, it seems. To keep the base glaze from being powdery, I mix CMC 1/4 of 1% or .0025 of the total glaze materials weight, mixing dry into one of the dry ingredients before adding to the hot water. This deflocculates my glaze so that it does not settle as well as giving me a hard smooth surface by dipping. <<

Doesn't the CMC rot and smell after a while? If it does, how do you
prevent this?

>> Then I put a few drops of mucilage ( the kind we used to use in school) into the Mason Stain/frit mixture. This makes your color so that it does not smear when you handle your work. >>

Do you have a rough percentage for this? I've been using 1 part color, 1
part frit and 1 part (or less) Glycerine with good results. I add 1 part
white glue and 1/2 part of (or less) of glycerine if I want to apply the
color to an already glazed and fired surface.

Regarding the "blizzard" of white spotting. I'm pretty sure that those
tiles were glazed and decorated on different days with plenty of time to
dry out. I was already aware of the possible problem from Mathias
Ostermann's book. Please, have a look at my link, I don't think it looks
like normal white spotting.

add, out of 15 colors I tested, it only does it with these 4.

The info about the glaze and the colors is below the picture of the
tile.
