gerstley borate : "spit and fly" ???

Ivor,
Very surprised to read about the story of the "spit
and fly" of gerstley borate.
Looked in the archives, but couldn't find any postings
on this subject.
I have fired myself hundreds of kilns with low-temp
glazes containing up to 35% gerstley borate, never
experienced the slightest "spit".....
Allways great results !
The only time this occured was when I was
experimenting with colemanite and borocalcite when
trying to find an alternative to replace gerstley
borate..
Those mixtures were spitting like crazy, and
completely decomposed when heating up, full glaze
layer ended up at the bottom of the kiln shelf....
No better way to see slowhand fireworks inside
your kiln...
So I suppose there might be a mix-up of names or
ingredients here ?

In old recipes they called for Colemanite or GB
We know now they are not the same.
Unfortunately you know it too
We wish you supplier would know it too!
