Lou,
I always wait until the thermocouples reach 100 degrees F to crack the kiln.
I don't pull the peeps, just crack the lid As you know the shelves and ware
are much hotter. I open it fully when the top shelf I use for a baffle is no
longer hot to the touch. I am cautious, but I have worked hard, and don't
want to lose pieces due to my impatience.
