Hi Earl,

I have Earthlink as my Internet Service Provider.

I had used the regular dial-up method for being on-line for
the last few years, and, since I have only one line, it
would tie up my 'phone.

Now I have a DSL obtained through my local 'phone company
who has some co-operative arrangement with Earthlink, so my
e-mail address will remain the same. The loading speed is
much faster this way, and my (typical 60 or 80 odd morning)
e-mail for example downloads in a few seconds, where before
it was several minutes.

The DSL allows me to make or recieve 'phone calls while I am
on-line. Rather than dialing *69 when I get off line to see
if I can discover the last incoming call I had missed.

DSL or Cable Modems are expensive ( to my way of thinking,
and I do not feel the providers of them are at all fair or
reasonable with their charges), and as well, you may find
that each time you talk with a salesman of the company
offering either, you will get a slightly different story as
to the costs and incidental additional charges, 'packages'
and options as you may need to ask for quite specificly,
which they may not allways mention...or that no single
salesman will mention the complete array of choices and
costs.

So, if you do elect to get one, consider to call and discuss
and try negotiating many times...and take notes.

Good luck,

Phil
