Dear Marta Matray,
The presence of Red Iron Oxide would suggest the beginnings of life of
a type which excreted Oxygen in a rather highly reducing atmosphere.
Best regards,

Rover Appears to Find 2nd Hint of Past Water

January 31, 2004
By KENNETH CHANG

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 30 - The Mars rover Opportunity
appears to have located the iron oxide - the second hint of
water in the ancient past at the site - that was the
motivation for sending it to a broad plain near the
planet's equator, some scientists involved in the project
said Friday.

From orbit, the Mars Odyssey spacecraft had picked up signs
of a deposit of iron oxide the size of Oklahoma in the
plain, known as Meridiani Planum. But scientists did not
know whether it was in the soil, in the rocks or elsewhere.

After the Opportunity landed, the scientists saw the layer
of dark pebbles and gravel on the surface, and suspected
that it contained the iron oxide, also known as gray
hematite. Early analysis supports that belief.

Dear Marta,
Thank you for that information.
I think my new server is properly aware that I exist now, I am
getting Clayart as direct mailing not as a digest. Whole new ball
game. No delay.
