short yellow vase

I can't believe the China knockoffs are hitting our
relatively isolated community....... BUT=20
yesterday in Stater Bros grocery I couldn't
believe what I was seeing in the floral section...
sitting all by its lonesome. There was a really
nicely formed approximately 6" rounded vase
in yellows with a white lining. A base of
yellow with narrow swirls
of darker and lighter yellows..... seemed to
have a glow about it. It did indeed
look and feel very similar to Otto Heino's small
yellow vases that sell for a lot more money than
this one did.

This precious yellow vase was marked Made In
China on the bottom and had a price tag of
50 cents American. I couldn't fathom that it
hadn't been snapped up, but hundreds of
shoppers (we're having a grocery strike; most
are shopping in this one store) passed by,
blithely unconcerned about the Yellow Beauty,
no interest in its country of origin,
nor its price tag.

I asked the checker if there had been others
for sale and if the tag was correct....... had it
been reduced from a higher price..... maybe
two dollars?? She said that they'd had a
dozen or so yellows plus several red vases of
the same size and style ...... started out at
seven dollars but only sold a couple until=20
they hit 50 cents.

Conflicting thoughts fill my head about the
history of my small yellow vase ....... and
the lack of appreciation for its beauty.......
or concern for the welfare of potters who
could not possibly compete with such a
product.

I am pleased to note that, lovely as the
yellows are, they're not as true as the
small original yellow/blue vase I have in
my Clayart collection........ from my potter
friend from down under. I lost his name and
address in my virus attack from last year....
and fear that if I mention it, I'll name the wrong
G.... Gregg? He's our production bud who had a kiln
blow up which put him out of business for
awhile. Truly my friend...... a fine writer......
but nameless at the moment. Sorry, G.

In the Mojave where night before last=20
the winds were the worst
of the season so far ... shingles scattered
about, protections for the cactus garden
blown away, the westie tilted at the wind
most of the night .... barking and snapping
and biting the air ... demanding that the
door be open so she could Attack..... only
to whirl around to exercise her ferocity
from inside.
