Dear Lee;

It is easy to see how this ware, made of the same raw materials as
Shino, and fired much hotter and more quickly.....could lead the
potters to employ rich decoration (and pools of green glaze) to liven
up a surface that was 'dead' compared to the Shino pieces. Perhaps a
case of 'all progress is not good'....and certainly, 'when you have
lemons, make lemonade'. Or, maybe I am an old codger, stuck in his
shinolust.

On the other hand, I got nine more shino plaques out of the kiln this
afternoon, and there are some winners (racers, Tony, if that could be
said about big tiles) among them.

Cheers, and Thanks,

Hank in Eugene

Been having computer problems. I think I finally have things
under control. (Registry Medic to the rescue!) Only problem is that
the new (used) scanner is only working via twain and the more elaborate
software (for scanning slides and negatives is screwed up somehow.)

I haven't been able to get warm shinos out of my kiln so far, so I
can relate to having to make adjustments. Have a load of grape vine
and sakura/cherry wood ash I cleaned out of the wood stove. Will test
in the next firing.

Some of the oribe forms are very interesting. Form is always my main
interest.

I put up a hard to find oribe book from the same series as the Shino
book I put up last week. You can see it here:
