nceca clayart room

updated thu 3 feb 11

I'm headed to my Very First Ever NCECA this year and
have a quick question.

Folks always talk about the Clayart Room at NCECA ...
where do I go, what happens there, and when?
When/where would I need to drop off a mug for the
exchange?

I won't be able to register until I arrive, so I will
not get my welcome-type packet until then (my excuse
for asking a question that may be answered in said
packet).

Thanks so much, everyone. I've been chomping at the
bit to visit this room ever since watching Kelly's
PB&J video from last year.

- Kristin, who will only be able to attend Friday and
Saturday. Trying to decide if driving over Thursday
night instead of Friday morning is worth the cost of
one night in a hotel. Is there something going on
that night I just CanNot Miss?

A big thanks to Mel for making the Clayart
Room so enjoyable and a great success. Great
people, great discussions and most of all,
the comradeship felt was heartwarming.

Once again Mel, thanks to you, and I look
forward to "hanging out" in the Clayart Room
in Louisville in 2007.

If anyone wants advice on applying to exhibitions, I would be happy
to talk about it and answer questions. I've learned a lot since I
started with the Strictly Functional Pottery National 16 years ago.

If anybody in the clayart room would like to hear long, rambling and
pointless stories or off-topic anecdotes, I'm your gal. I can be plied
with contraband beverages, salt licorice, or just plain old attention.

I am also a gold mine of sourdough recipes, cloth diapering tips and
opinions about heirloom vegetable growing. All of these are essential
tot he future of ceramics, both nationally and internationally.

I am proud to be able to do my part.

Yours,

fit on a business card, and more likely to actually DELIVER the emails I
send...

Kelly,

I'll take you up on the vegetable growing...I'm ready for the garden plot to
thaw so I can do the first tilling!!

Tell me what salt licorice is, and I'll have it for ya!

I've been searching the archives, and cannot find a post that tells me where the NCECA Clayart Room is located. Is there a schedule of events, or is it all informal, except for the mug exchange? As an occasional reader/poster, I look forward to meeting you all.......

we can plan now for the mug exchange.
we can have a simple display of `sets` of dishes.
if there are a few folks that want to do a demo
or give a small educational talk, that too is a go.

our room will be open to the public, and we hope
that many new folks will join us, and we can promote clayart.
(orange dots will be available. with hugs.)

we continue to make the clayart room a `safe and pleasant`
place for people. we encourage people traveling alone to
use the clayart room to meet and greet others...and find
people to interact with, have dinner with, and enjoy hospitality.
no need to use a bar.

necea will also make sure their members find out
about clayart.

we also encourage all of you to think about your
membership to nceca. it is on their website.
and, if you are planning on tampa, make sure you
get your information in and get your credentials.
time is flying. and those that had a gripe about nceca
may find that it is time to re/join and make your own voice heard.

nothing about clayart will change. if you have a
constructive criticism of something that goes on
at nceca...post it. i will not block anything that
is constructive and honest. stupid bitching will not
be posted.

the folks at nceca will understand that, and pass
comments on to those that are involved.

it was also discussed today that nceca is determined
to be more open to other forms of `education and membership`
they want studio potters, home potters and art centers to become
involved. it is no longer `for college profs only`. they understand
that becoming more involved in the world of clay will only help
them, and that `larger` audience. we too discussed involvement of the
American Craft Council. we will see where that will lead.

this is all very exciting for those of us that have been in the
world of clay for many years. it is time to launch a new ship.
and, there will be gobs of room on that ship for a very diverse population
of people that love clay.

I thought for a moment that us "Stay-At-Home" mug exchange folks had
gotten a leg up on those attending....lol. Y'all have fun down there!
This is great.

Well now...

I'm feeling the "professional development" wheels turning.
Can we say "paid time off" in 2012?
