Hi Everyone, I am really learning a lot from the postings and the =
archives. I have been following the thread about venting kilns. Mine is =
in the garage and I have just started again to fire it. The garage is =
connected to the house but I have been opening the garage door a bit =
while firing and cannot smell any fumes in the house. Any opinions re =
whether I need to get a venting system? Thanks in advance. Lowell Ann

You should consider getting a kiln vent, because you may be getting fumes in
the house that you cannot detect.

There may not be much organic material in your clay or your are
indeed getting enough air movement to remove the fumes you can smell.
But don't forget you'll also have fumes you can't smell - carbon
monoxide. A vent can also help with a cleaner firing and I've found
it evens out the heat in my firings.
