For us, it would require us to to take up a finite amount of kiln space with
bricks stacked high enough for the peep hole. The pyrometer has been very
dependable and tells us how long it's been at a temp. The cones could not have
told us that the kiln had suddenly shot up. The pyrometer made that very clear.

I would not want to use cones in our kiln. We don't use multiple shelves, so
we would have the cones balanced on a tall tower. If it toppled it would take
out a lot of pots.

I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The pyrometer works well and was
superior to cones two weeks ago.
