A little advice.
1. Keep your virus definitions up to date. Many people have anti-virus
software but many don't know to set their software up to give them new
virus definitions at least once a week. This update tells the software
about "new" viruses that are invented, and filters them out before they get
onto your computers.
2. Look into Norton Ghost software. You use it to make an "image" of your
hard drive at a particular point in time. Then when your system goes crazy,
you can you start over and copy that image back onto your hard drive. That
puts it back at a known good state without having to load all the software.
This is what all the IT departments do; there is no way they could reload
software onto all the computers whenever something gets corrupt. It is a
good idea to "re-image" once a month or once a quarter to catch new software
you have installed.
3. Whether or not you do #2, store all your data files (word, excel, etc.)
in your My Documents folder. Back up this folder and your email folder at
least every week. Backing up only the data files is fast, they all fit onto
a CD or DVD, and most people are more likely to do that than back up their
whole hard drives.
