dry glaze mixing help.

I purchased some Laguna Morroccan cone 5 glaze and would like to mix it
for brushing.

The laguna catalog says to mix 7 oz water with 1 lb glaze powder and 5.5g
of brushing medium.

Should I mix the whole pound or can I just mix 1/4lb pound with 1 3/4oz
water.

Also I have no clue what a brushing medium is.

TIA - ED

BTW thanks everyone for the kiln help.

Hi Ed
Brushing medium is usually some form of CMC. You can just buy raw CMC, or
companies like Laguna mix up other concoctions that may work even better.
For example, you can see on this link that you can get CMC in liquid pints
to add to liquid glaze, in dry form to add to the dry mix before adding
water, or the Laguna Brushing medium also in dry. They slow down the drying
time so the glaze doesn't stick in your brush before you get ti on the pot.
