Dear Ivor and others,
I would not want to write an article about the clay softness tester until I
research more clay bodies than the ones I have at my disposal. I already
offered to test the softness of any samples sent to me and post the results
so I once again make that offer:
If any of you would like to know how hard or soft the clay you work with is,
call me for instructions on how to prepare samples for testing. You will
need to ship less than one pound of clay so the cost should be quite small
but I can't afford to buy countless bags of clay to test when all I need is
a few ounces.

Dear Michael Wendt,
I think this is a good idea which should be promoted. That you are
getting consistent results is as good a recommendation as is needed
for judging the workability of any clay.
Will you write up the construction and instructions for publication in
PMI so that it is freely and universally available or will you ask
someone to make it under contract
Best regards,

Dear Michael Wendt,
I hope you get a good response from people in reasonable mailing
distance. This would seem to be the only low cost way of evaluating
the workability of plastic clays without becoming involved in maths
and long formulae.
Best regards,
