dust control

There have been quite a few posts recently, some adamant,
about keeping dust under control when sanding pots,
smoothing bottoms or mixing glaze powders.

But of all the suggestions/recommendations no one has
mentioned using an extractive hood, like the ones they
have in chemistry labs. I have handled some pretty
noxious chemicals in these kind of hoods without a whiff
of the fumes.

Cons:
. Permanent installation in most cases
. Takes up space
. An expense ( how much depends on your ingenuity)
. Increases heating costs
. May not be able to do all dusty work inside the hood

Pros
. Gets rid of dust at the source
. Always there, ready to go
. Reduces time spent wearing a mask
. Better than wearing a mask
. Can be used when spraying glaze

What am I missing here?
