Basic Ceramic Raw Materials and Glaze Chemistry Workshop
Instructor: John Britt
This workshop in basic ceramic chemistry is designed for potters who want to
become acquainted with materials used in ceramics, their origins, and their
uses in mid-range (cone 5-6) and high fire (cone 10) glazes. We will
briefly cover oxides and their sources, the Seger Unity Molecular formula,
and will mix and test glaze recipes on test tiles only. The first weekend
will be lecture and glaze mixing. The second Saturday will be devoted to
additional lecture material and discussing the results of the fired glaze
tests. This is an opportunity for beginners to become acquainted with glaze
chemistry and for others to increase their knowledge. Some experience with
ceramics is preferred. Call 336-723-7395 for more information or to
register. Registration may also be completed online at www.sawtooth.org.
