I am not a professional mold maker but based on MY experience, Suggest you make the mold 2- 2.5" thick all around for a flat piece and at least a week or two drying. Try not to roll the clay across the mold but press the clay slab into it. Also suggest you make the mold 3/8" deep from your highest ridge to the top edge of the mold. That way after pressing you can simply run a straight edge across the mold and even out your bottom side. Depending on humidity and climate where you are you may have to dry the molds as long as 1-2 weeks. Here in Arizona desert I let my molds dry sometimes only 1 week but usually 2.
For better detail and preciseness make a latex mold. First Make a relief in clay. Bisque fire it. Then make a latex mold from your bisque fired piece. Layer on about 10-20 layers of latex--drying inbetween each layer. A latex mold (after drying)can be put right through a slab roller.
Hope this helps. Have fun.
