Hello Friends,
Recently, Barry Carpenter, the ceramics prof. at McNeese Univ. invited
me to be a participant at an anagama firing in Lake Charles, LA. . The kiln
hadn't been fired in 3 years, and only a couple of participants had helped
with that firing.....there were no notes to follow......so.....we knew it
was going to basically be a learning experience. I worked the 4 AM shift on
three mornings, with Jack Troy. What a delight ! There were also some of
'my people' from New Orleans who came to participate. And.....there were
some incredible students.
I hope that you don't have to join a group to visit my public photo
albums (please let me know....I'm sure you will :>) If you go to this site,
hopefully you may view the 3 recent albums which include "Firing at Lake
Charles", "Jack Troy's Demo", and "Unloading at Lake Charles". There is
also an album from the Potter's Council workshop "Firing Practices."

Kickasswoodfirinwoman,
Merrie
You can read about firing, talk about firing, look at videos about
firing, and apply all this knowledge when you are firing.......but there is
nothing like the knowledge gained when you analyze experiments and mistakes
! Those are the lessons that lead to great change and improvement.

Hello Merrie: I looked at the photos! Nice stuff. What sort of wood do
you fire with, and how did you "finish the firing off". What a dream to
have a shift with Jack. Now I know why the temperature warmed up to 34F
in MN. Thanks!
