Dear Cindi,
Brian Gartside of New Zealand has a lot of knowledge about Paper clay,
but in the end I think you will be referred back to the lady who
brought the material to prominence (Rosette Gault). Do a search for
the author and the subject, there is a lot out there.
I feel it would be impossible to give a specific answer to any
question about this material without precise knowledge of the nature
of the paper which is being used. Plants are such that there are
infinite variations of cell structure and each would contribute
differing properties depending on prior treatment. Hence your
experience of stuff which is stringy and stuff which is smooth as
clay.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia
