seconds/uglypotspot

I don't recall how it began, but my more or less
"seconds"....... even thirds and fourths..... IF
they survive the hammer .... wind up outside my
studio door on the sand in my UglyPotSpot.

I've finally accepted that I'll see these pots again
where I least expect it. Many have been sold
by me for a couple dollars as Outside Pots to hold
plants .... several
on a cliff overlooking the Pacific in a fairytale
spot
in San Clemente, California. Some have been
displayed among the antiques in a shop in the city.
Local........ and not-so-local ...... artists have
purchased them as the "perfect pot for my
still-life painting" for their "not ordinary" ......
shapes and glazes. (I can't say extraordinary
here ...... sounds like something they=20
definitely are not.) One was proudly brought
out at a Christmas dinner ......" here's one of
JoyceLee's pots", she said..... complemented
by the new orchid plant she'd also been given
as a Christmas gift from her daughter.
THAT one really embarrassed me..... so bad.....
later I told her I'd replace it with a Good Pot,
but that was not to be..... the UglyPot was the
one she wanted.

So now I'm back to hammering ....... I'll miss
the odd shapes and experimental (for me)
glazes that greeted me as I moved in&out
.... some great sparkly copper reds and
copper purples.... rough browns ..... Kurt's
fused
salts...... on thin-
rimmed and heavy-bottomed bowls .... alongside
Hank's
shinos that went very wrong under my careful
shepherding .... too bad...... I'd like to give
them away ..... but can't trust where they'll
wind up...... so they've been hammered .... kind
of freeing actually.....

In the Mojave where I'm glad to hear that
our Tony will be at NCECA ..... but must
warn all of you who do not already know.....
that Tony and I share a lot....... but we do
NOT share an age category.... not even
close...... he is MUCH older...... a good
decade and a half...... well, some one of
us is much older, at any rate. Heck, I'm
even older than the mayor....... by two
days....... drat!
