Hi Clayarters,

Does anyone have any ideas for a clay project involving the art of Mexico
that I could do with 3 groups of 20 Kindergarteners? I would appreciate
any ideas or advice.

Thanks in advance,

While I was artist in residence at a school in Melbourne, we made the Aztec Calender .

If you have a close look to the months symbols, they look like cartoons.

I enlarged them at the photocopier and copied lots so the kids could coloured them. In this way they become familiar with the symbols, learned the names and later model them in clay, glazed in bright colours. It was great fun and very succesful.

I'll scan a page of them and a photo of the final mural, so you can appreciate what a delightful piece of art they produced.
