Hi, my stoneware base glaze has gerstley borate as one of the components
(16% per 100grms). My new supply yesterday does not work so Im in trouble.
Does anyone have a cone 8, cone 9 alternative I can try. Have been to the
gerstly borate web site, but I live in Australia and am hoping I can get
better help here.

Thanks.

Sam,

Try CadyCal. It won't be a direct 1:1 replacement. You will need to=20
reformulate your glaze base a bit and test it. Also, I don't know if it =
is=20
available in Australia, but it has been a vary reliable alternative for=20
Gerstley Borate in my ^6 Oxidation glazes. Good Luck !

Sam,
In what way does your new supply not work? Doesn't melt? Crazes?
Crawls? Or???
And when did you purchase your old supply?
Finally, what's the base glaze recipe?
At 16%, you are not using an excessive amount, so you should be able to
manage by adjusting the recipe a bit.
Good potting,

Hello Sam.
It is much easier more difficult than you imagine: Your Gerstley borate
supply: was it new or from the late 80th?
Will you send me the recipe with available Oz borax frits. I can keep it
confident.
It is much easier to do it through software than one for one.
You may order of course a shipment from the USA (and send a sheepment in
return....)

Original was purchased a couple of years ago, new supply purchased 2 weeks
ago.
Raku white crackle turns completely burnt black and flaked and fell off
where thick(Last thursday).
Test glaze of 16% in stoneware glaze has small bubbles pin hole size, I am
sure this one can be fixed and have had some great help and direction from
Tom Buck and digitalfire. Much appreciated for the responce for help.

Hi Sam,

Send me the glaze recipe - it will be easy to use F3134 to supply the
boron - if you can't get that frit let me know what boron frit you can
get with little or no Al2O3 (20% or higher boron.) Keep in mind the
ferro frits down there have different lables - check it out with
somebody.

Been trying to come up with a raku glaze based on a low temperature
melting frit to replace all the gertsley borate recipes.

Couple years ago thought I'd found the ideal solution. Dal Tile frit
#439. Melted by itself at 1300=B0F, so I could add about 15% clay to
the recipe for suspension purposes. Unfortunately, we discovered the
frit was soluble.

Been testing out other frits from Ferro, General Color (now something
else that I can't remember) and Fusion. Been using recommended frits
from each - still not satisfied.

Any recommendations for a low temp melting frit (1300=B0 F or lower)
that might be suitable for adding 15% clay and melt well at raku
temperatures (^08-06)?
