lets see. sport coat, shirts, new shoes.
toothpaste.
2 teabowls.
one for the mug exchange, one for the mug sale.
(no matter how old one gets, the nceca mug sale
always makes one nervous...what if your mug is
still sitting on the table saturday morning? )
and, it is right next to tony clennell's.) don't think
about it. two years ago, mine was a number 4 sale.
a minute after the doors opened. now that was thrilling.
someone sat up all night to get in there early, to buy
my teabowl.
will the black t shirt look good with my coat?
i think so. we will have that mob look...ten
clayarters going to dinner. in a mob.
black biker shirts with "clayart" blazened on the
chest. now, that will be a site. my new hand made
sweater was out, but i cannot think of smashing it into
a suitcase...so, it went back in the clean drawer. david hendley
might spill catsup on it. can't take the chance.
remember, the twin sigalata sisters will sing on
friday night. tera and tony...
i get sad when planning for nceca. i think of alice delkic
sitting in the clayart room. smiling and talking to everyone.
feriz will be in indy. just to come and sit in the clayart room.
talk about itc, kilns...argue a bit. that will be nice.
but that smile is gone forever.
i will make a sign for the clayart room `Alice's Room`. I do
that every year. `Alice's Room` a nice thought.
every kiln i have, and every kiln i build, i take a piece of chalk
and write `alice` on the frame. she was one of the finest human
beings i have ever known. we all miss her.
had to buy a new coat. minus 60lbs is a coat stealer.
so i got one of those contractor sport coats. 18 pockets...
all cotton, khaki color. the company that makes `bucket boss`,
and all those belts and pouches...duluth trading..now makes
sport coats to go with all the belts.
leaving the belts home. they don't let you take a makita drill
driver on the plane. 18 volt. hate to leave home without it.
while writing this post i have had 7 african scams come to this
mailbox. god i hate crooks, in any form, in any country, any
place. i have been messin with computers almost full time now
for 12 years. i watch the crooks spoil everything. the net was
here for free...and they just take over. can't help themselves.
they must destroy and kill. anything good. gotta kill it.
late night post. thinking of nceca. scary, new book, hope
folks will like it. scary.
if you think having your pots our there for folks to critique or bash, try a
book. kinda have your soul wrapped up. i have not seen it
yet. i did not look at the galleys. i trust bill jones. he will
make it much better than i ever could. it is like sending a
manuscript to ruth butler or sherman hall. they will make your
dumb writing look like `star quality`. trust them. it is what
they do, and they do it well.
i do look forward to seeing old and dear friends. will meet
kurt at the airport, marta is on the same flight. we will
try and sit together..gail (figilywig)will pick us up...smash us into
her yugo...and she won't let me put my ticks in the car...she
is going to duct tape the jar to the roof. i can only get 27,000
of them in one jar. i hate to leave the other 7 million at home.
well, i can mail them to dannon and linda blossom...they can
let them go. vince has instructed me in how to make perfect
1/32 inch holes in the jar top. perfectly placed every 1 and 7/8
inches. and of course he has me learning to hand sharpen my
drill bits...and using an 18th century hand spinning drill.
he sent 187 pages of instructions. ivor will check it all
and write a report on the quality of the steel in the drill bit.
it is s-32 carbon/chrome alloy hardened with heat.
phil is very nervous...first time he has had a booth for his
tools. talking to three thousand people is not his thing. we
will all look out for him. he is a nice guy. makes all those
tools by himself...by hand. small operation, just phil.
he does not have a 50,000 dollar corporate loan or stock option.
just phil. makes a buck now and then.
wonderful craftsman, with anything. old world for sure.
so, that is it for tonight.
see many of you in the clayart room. i truly love the clayart
room. best thing at nceca.
good friends, smiling...just like alice.
love, mel

Mel -- who is going to shepherd the rest of us in the wilderness while you (Mr. Mayor), and Joyce and Kelly and and and the rest of the "best" folks are at NCECA? Are we on our own? Is this the week during which all the clayart setting will change?
Just wondering what to expect.....we stay-at-homes will miss y'all (but we have Chris Shafale's stay-at-home-clay-exhange to console us, and a welcome and appreciated consolation it is...)

(I know, only 2 hours from Indy -- I'll be making a day-trip on Friday but will be stressing if I'm without Clayart the rest of the week).

Mel:
If you make a wee tiny hole in one corner of the
lining of that old jacket, and put in a few buckets
of those hungry critters you've been raising, it
should make up for those missing 60 pounds
quick enough. And amuse us all, watching your
jacket shift and bulge at random.
Nice words about Alice. Didn't know her,
but know how you feel. People in my life
like that too. Nice idea about the chalk.
I'm bringing that piece inspired by Lili,
the critters can carry it out to the hall if
you don't like it. My "piece of chalk" is
a small white label. I'm sure Alice watches
from wherever she is, and smiles when
she sees you do that...every time.
Not to worry about the book. Once you see
the line of us waiting to buy it, have you sign
it, those worries are gonna turn to smiles.
Potters are a niche market maybe, but we
know how to support one of our own.
Besides.....with all those legs on the little
critters, the applause is gonna be deafening!
Think those siglata sisters, or at least the
Tony part of that duo is gonna wear an orange
blouse to match the leather pants?
Leather...the little critters are gonna like that!
See you in Indy.

I am pretty sure Dannon had about the same reaction to this as I did. There
are no words for the thoughts!!!
I, for one, will be taking your pulse and checking your general condition
Mel. You are starting to drift a bit with this tick thing.

I am unable to accept this donation at this time. You
can leave them at home for your dog to play with, however.
Sharlene will need something to keep the dog busy in your
absence. No, no, I INSIST. I've no doubt that there
will be enough here in summer to be going on with.
Bring your cape, though.

Dannon Rhudy
