Ive converted a 1227 Skutt (12 sided) to a gas kiln.
Beautiful!
Yet I want any firing schedules and advise yall have.
Its 10.5 cubic foot.
Two venturi burners from the bottom pointed dtraght up/ shelf directly above them at 9 "
from burner.
4 1/2 " flue opening center

Fired, took 10 hours and 30 gallons of propane, I KNOW TOO MUCH!
I had a 2 cone difference top to bottom (top colder).

Questions. Too much gas hu?
Peeling and blistered glazes and some just underfired.
Shinos were the glazes.
What kind of Bag wall does a kiln like this require? Learned not to obstruct the flame with the
shelf.
Seemed to roll all the flame and subsequently the heat at bottom center while not allowing
transfer of heat in the rest of the kiln.
Other stupid thing but want to hear from yall.

Kolin,

Your converted 1227 is very like the Olympic Torchbearer design. As such, I
think the many postings made by myself as others would apply. Take a look
at the archives and try some of the setup and firing suggestions. They have
worked well in taming the Torchbearers. I think you will be able to cut the
gas consumption and firing time, if you wish.
