RON ROY WORKSHOP ON THE WEST COAST!
For those of you who have long awaited the arrival of Ron Roy, your
opportunity has arrived. For those of you who don't know, Ron is the
co-author of Mastering Cone 6 Glazes and ClayArt's resident glaze guru.
We have managed to roust him from his Canadian hideaway and are
spiriting him to sunny California. He will be in Orangevale, California
(near Sacramento) from August 14-18, hosted by FireArt ClayWorks
(www.fireartclayworks.com) for a 2-part demo and hands-on workshop:
"Glaze Formulation: Unraveling the Mystery".
The workshop is offered in two categories:
The first is a 2-day weekend session on August 14 and 15th. Ron will be
delving into the basics of glaze formulation, explaining how little
chemistry one needs to know in order to formulate their own glazes. He
will be showing us working examples of how a shift in ingredients can
completely change a glaze or keep it exactly the same.
He will be demonstrating the use of Insight and GlazeMaster software for
those of you who would like to bring your laptops and give it a whirl.
Ron has trial software copies available for your use but having your
computer with you is not a requirement. This session is designed to
cater to both beginning and advanced glaze chefs and provide a rich
forum for questions and answers.
The second is a 5-day package. It begins with the weekend workshop on
the 14th and 15th, then continues for an additional three days of
hand-on mixing, testing and firing, using the techniques and information
learned in the weekend session or your examples you bring to the
workshop. We will look at our results and explore alternative fixes, as
well as talk about the methodology behind adjustments to accommodate
variations in temperature, color and surface. We will mix our own
glazes, test them on site, and then discuss the results and changes as a
group.
PLEASE NOTE: The 5-day hands on session has limited enrollment. Almost
half the quota is signed up already so if you are interested in the
extended session you need to get your registration in as soon as possible!
THE COURSE INCLUDES A WORKBOOK THAT PROVIDES THE STARTING INFORMATION
ANTONE WILL NEED TO START UNDERSTANDING GLAZES FROM THE MOLECULAR LEVEL.
There are hotel accomodations nearby, and camping on site is available
if you'd like to pinch some pennies. FireArt keeps a running list to
help out of town participants work out roomate arrangements if they
prefer. We have registrants coming from as far away as Alaska! FireArt
ClayWorks is located on 2 acres in the foothills of the Sierras. There
is plenty of parking. We will have lunch order service available, and a
group potluck dinner on Sunday night.
Don't miss out on this rare opportunity. You can call Morgan Britt at
(916) 715-6113 for more information, or go to www fireartclayworks.com
and print out a registration form.
We look forward to seeing you in August!

I just realized that some on the list may have tuned out to go to NCECA
when this was posted - excuse me if it is a duplicate.
If there are any questions I will be happy to answer them.
