Since many of the clayart members seem to be getting bombarded by =
viruses when they check their email, it is only obvious the reason why. =
I have never had a problem with viruses trying to get through on a daily =
basis until now. If anyone is adding members email addresses to their =
address book, that is the problem. It can't be some coincidence that it =
is happening to many of us. Most email virus/worms will access the =
address book of the person they are attacking. The virus will then be =
sent to all those who are in the address book and then find their =
address book and so on....
I don't keep any addresses saved and I do it for that purpose alone. I =
have a file that I save outside of my email program and I save any =
important addresses there. So, if anyone disagrees, please let me know, =
but I can't figure out why none of my other email addresses (I have =
three) have been attacked. Only this one (which is what is registered to =
clayart) and I have spoke to other members who have told me the same.

Hi Rachel.
I think you're using a strategy that protects against the viruses of 5
years ago. The current ones don't work the way you describe. They
harvest addresses from all over the web: from web sites and from
servers like the one that hosts our archived posts from 10 years or so
of Clayart. I do get bogus posts from people who I know, but it's
almost always Clayart folks, not my friends in VT. Our Clayart posts
with our email addresses are sitting on the ACERS server and these
automated programs are harvesting them from there. So set up your
address book again! You don't have much power over the sending end of
the spam/virus problem. Your best bet is virus protection software and
never opening an attachment unless someone has told you they are
sending it.

Lotsa luck on that tack, Rachel--I've read that recent viruses will search
your entire hard drive for anything looks like an email address!
And ditto what Jennifer Boyer said on this.
