Jennifer Boyer has noted (off-list) that there are
copies of the Clayart archives on the web, not just
the "official" one. So my idea about disguising
all the Email address retroactively would fail for
those unaccessible copies.
But it still makes sense to disguise Email addresses
for any new messages going to the archives, which would
serve the same function as having a private system:
You could change your current address and escape spam,
since the harvesters couldn't find your new address.
There may be a really simple way to do this, depending
on the Listserv software. If it's possible to tell the
software to omit the sender's address from the header
of the posting, then that's all we'd need. Hopefully,
this would be a one-time setting change for Mel.
Of course, if you want to enable others to respond
to you personally from the archived post, you'd
need to include your Email address in your
signature line. You can easily "munge" your
own address, and include human-readable
instructions for restoring it in the signature line.
Here is an example:

Just a thought.
