I agree with Holly on this one (see below).
You can subscribe to Clayart with a hotmail account and configure to NOMAIL.
Using the archives to read the mail works pretty well. Andi's friend can
log on from anywhere- her house, the local library, or work (if allowed) and
check out the topics that interest her. And she is a full-fledged member
who qualifies for the exchange.
When the last crash was going on I couldn't figure out if it was my machine
or the listserv system so I was going out to the archives several times a
day to see if any new messages had been posted. Because the messages are
arranged by week and subject title its very easy to follow a thread and
ignore subjects that don't interest you.
The down side in using the archives is by the end of the week the list of
messages gets pretty long. As a person who gets the digest form I do still
go out to the archives to see if there are any new messages when there is a
"hot" thread going on and I don't want to wait until the next day to see
responses.
And posting from the archives is actually easier then posting as a digest
receiver, even though it is password protected.
Just my thoughts.

Andi,
I can understand your friend's situation, but there has to be some
standard, and if that standard is not "subscribing to Clayart" then what
would it possibly be? "Reads Clayart sometimes?" ................Your
friend can have a yahoo or hotmail email address, anyone can set up one of
those, and she can subscribe to Clayart and then set her configuration to
NOMAIL, and check it in the archives when she has access.

Since I have changed over to a new email address, set Clayart to NOMAIL and
read the list from the archives, my inbox is very lonely indeed.
However, the trade off for no spam or prizes to collect, is worth the trip
over the internet fence to fetch the day's postings. If you use the radio
buttons at the top of the archive list, you can read the messages by most
current, so the newest messages are at the top. I still read Clayart a
couple of times a day and so far, this seems to be a good alternative to
avoid the spam I was getting when getting the list dropped directly into my
mailbox. However, I would be sad if I found out that this method of
reading Clayart makes me a NOMEMBER. Do not think so.
