Could someone please look at this sight:
http://www.beyondbeads.com/beads_LM/Beads_lmtotem1.html and help me figure out the technique? I've done some
stoneware pendants, but would love to get the detail she does. Do you think she
does the master in porcelain? or wax? Do you think she does a plaster mold? uses
slip casting? Anybody out there doing beads/pendants, I'd love any
suggestions.

Having seen only photos of her beads, I would have to guess that she uses
either a plaster mold and slip casts (with additional carving to fine-tune
the details) or a silicone mold to press mold similar to the work of
Melanie Brooks-Lukacs
(http://mywebpages.comcast.net/clukacs107879MI/charms.html)

As for people doing ceramic beads/pendants... There are actually quite a
few of us. For more information about our growing community, please
consider checking out our website (under development) http://beads-of-clay.org

Best Wishes,

Andi.

Hi Laura,

I went and looked out of curiousity...

These are really well done, and clearly, the Artist has
considerable ability and talent for these themes.

I could not tell how big - or small - these are...but,
regardless, I would guess that they are made in a delicate
mold, maybe a gang mold, for convenience. Likely a plaster
mold I would think, and that there would be a hand carved
master-positive (made of anything as would hold the detail
and be water proof) for each entity as would be retained in
safe keeping, from which the molds are made, or may continue
to be made if needed.

I would like to see their appearance from the back and the
side to guess better of the manner in which the mold might
part, as would be of some inportance i think on such
smallish detailed things as these.

This is my speculation anyway, as I have never done things
like this nor made molds to do so.

But, I am feeling quite taken with this...and feel inspired
to muse on smallish things as one could make, or make in
molds, to decorate in oxides or thin tints, and fire...

Interesting!

So much awaits...
